The two examples that follow illustrate the differences in Interchange processing as affected by RIP . Example 1: Standard Interchange Processing Behavior for the XMLDisassembler Component The following XML is for a document that will be submitted to a receive location, and then to the XMLReceive Pipeline. This XMLDisassembler on the XMLReceive pipeline is configured for Standard Interchange Processing: <MyBatch> <SubDoc1>MyDataValue1</SubDoc1> <SubDoc2>MyDataValue2</SubDoc2> <SubDoc3>MyDataValue3</SubDoc3> <SubDoc4>MyDataValue4</SubDoc4> <SubDoc5>MyDataValue5</SubDoc5> </MyBatch>

TIP You can find the Windows Easy Transfer application in %SystemRoot%\System32\ migwiz; the file is called migwiz.exe. This batch of messages contains five messages, all of which will be successfully extracted and put into the Interchange. SubDoc1, SubDoc2, and SubDoc3 process through the pipeline and are ready to be published. SubDoc 4 creates an error at the Disassemble stage in the pipeline. This causes all the messages that have already been processed to roll back and the original Interchange message to be suspended as resumable. The net effect is that no messages are published to the Messagebox. The batch is suspended because in Standard Interchange Processing, any pipeline failures cause the entire Interchange to be discarded, and any messages that may have been successfully disassembled are to be thrown away and suspended.

Once you have copied Windows Easy Transfer to your old computer, start it, and you ll see the screen shown in Figure 3-2.

Example 2: Recoverable Interchange Processing Behavior for the XMLDisassembler Component Using the same inbound batch document as shown in Example 1, if we set the XMLDisassembler to use RIP the execution that will occur in the pipeline processing will be dramatically , different. SubDoc1, SubDoc2, and SubDoc3 successfully pass through the pipeline and are ready to be published to the Messagebox. SubDoc4 generates an error in the XMLDisassembler and will be suspended. SubDoc5 passes through the pipeline and is able to be published to the Messagebox. Once the entire Interchange is processed, SubDoc1, SubDoc2, SubDoc3, and SubDoc5 are successfully published to the Messagebox. SubDoc4 is placed in the suspended queue.1 SubDoc2 is then sent to the suspended queue due to a no subscriber found error.

There are two places where you can configure a recoverable Interchange. The first is in the Receive Pipeline Designer as shown in Figure 4-5. The ability to configure Recoverable Interchange Processing is available at design time when a custom pipeline that contains either a Flat File Disassembler or an XMLDisassembler is being developed. Recoverable Interchanges is a property of that component.

1. Click Next on the screen shown in Figure 3-2. 2. Click Start a New Transfer. 3. Select My Old Computer as the system from which you are transferring files and settings. 4. Select the transfer media option applicable to you, such as USB East Transfer cable, network, or removable storage device.

Tip If you would like to work with the exact data that I am using in this example, the script is included in the code downloads for the chapter. It has both the schema and data, and you can run the script both locally and in a SQL Azure instance to take advantage of the data. The data itself is an extract from the AdventureWorks sample database, but has additional fields of Lat and Long for geocoding.

The second place to configure Recoverable Interchange Processing is on the receive location that will process the inbound Interchange. The property is part of the per-instance pipeline configuration screen shown in Figure 4-6.2
